Introduction
When it comes to CPU aircooling the current trend is all about heatpipes, and why not? Heatpipe coolers are in some instances better than the traditional block style heatsinks and only require a small amount of airflow to work. The only inherent drawback would be size, as heatpipe coolers tend to be rather large.
In this review we will be looking at the compact CPU cooler from CoolerMaster called the Vortex 752. This is a heatpipe enabled cooler that is designed as a universal OEM replacement for the Intel 775 and AMD K8 and AM2 processors.

Design wise the Vortex 752 does not feature anything completely outrageous, There are 2 copper heatpipes bonded to a copper base. The cooling fins are made from thin aluminum and wrapped in a plastic fan shroud. The cooling fan is 92mm x 25mm but tapers to 80mm at its base. The sides are vented to help control noise.
Most fans in this configuration are simply clipped into place but CoolerMaster opted to mount this fan with rubber plugs help to control vibration while holding the fan into place. These plugs also make it VERY difficult to swap fans without building a special tool to reseat them.

Our side by side shot shows how the CoolerMaster Vortex 752 as it compares to a stock Intel cooler. The Vortex is only slightly taller so you can expect that it will fit in most HTPC systems as well as your standard PC case. As an added bonus the whole package only weighs 307g! That's about 100g lighter than stock.
