P4 Price Flux
Published: Thursday, November 15, 2001 | By: DennisI heard from my sources in the East that right now the P4 line of processors is getting to become a very risky business. With the current shortage of available chips the running price for CPUs is changing radically every 10 minutes. Normally this isn't uncommon in the chip industry but the price instability has wholesalers worried.

Comdex pt2 @ VIAHardware
Published: Thursday, November 15, 2001 | By: DennisSorry for the lack of news postings it would seem that when Comdex comes to town the tech sector takes a week off. There will be plenty to report afterwards I'm sure.
VIAHardware has day 2 posted of their Comdex experience. As always plenty of photos and this time the DDR version of the i845 makes an appearance. -

Feds Fail Security
Published: Saturday, November 10, 2001 | By: DennisJust like in grade school a Federal Subcommittee was given the task of rating how other Federal agencies are doing when it comes to computer and network security. Out of all agencies listed the average is an F. This is partly due to the recent attacks of Code Red and Nimba virri exploiting Windows security holes.

Soltek SL-85DRS P4 DDR333 Motherboard
Published: Friday, November 9, 2001 | By: DennisMost of the preview reviews of the SIS 645 chipset have shown some very impressive memory scores. Now if you put that chip on a P4 motherboard, then throw in some Over Clocking controls, you will get a product with some potential. It would appear that Soltek has done just that.

533MHz Intel Chip
Published: Friday, November 9, 2001 | By: DennisDespite being in the middle of a P4 supply problem Intel is pushing to have their 533MHz platform out ahead of schedule. This is some pretty good news and a sign that Intel has put on their aggressive "hat".

Dual Monitor FAQ Updated
Published: Thursday, November 8, 2001 | By: DennisI got a question the other day about dual desktops using a GeForce3 and GeForce2 MX PCI. Normally you wouldn't think this to be a problem but for some strange reason the video driver likes to "hide" the second display adaptor from view instead of jumping right to it.
