  • A Slight Snag in the AOL ATnT Cable Deal

Published: Monday, September 10, 2001 | By: Dennis

Good news indeed, CNN tells us that AOL Time Warner dropped the cable deal due to money problems. approve smile So it looks like another company bit the dust in the quest to have the AT&T cable network.

I just wish they didn't sell my node off to some local provider, worse service ever.

  • Via Strikes at Intel with Countersuit

Published: Monday, September 10, 2001 | By: Dennis

It would seem that VIA is in the mood to play hard ball with Intel saying that Intel's own chipset the 845 infringes VIA's patents among other things.

As I understand it this is what started it all.
"Via has already released its own chip set, the P4X266, that supports DDR, however the company has not obtained a license from Intel for the 400MHz bus used with the Pentium 4. The company maintains Intel does not have a patent that covers the bus."

The first feature would be "Quoted text like this" followed by smiles big grin smile so now I can add humor to the news.

  • Does Linux need Microsoft??

Published: Friday, September 7, 2001 | By: Dennis

This is a very interesting article that gets you thinking. I even thought back to a Linux special I saw in TV where the question was asked "When a driver doesn't exist how do you go about getting one?" The answer was something like "We will use a Microsoft version as a basis and port it over to Linux."

  • Dell wants HP-Compaq customers

Published: Friday, September 7, 2001 | By: Dennis

Dell is planning to take advantage of the HP-Compaq computer confusion and capture some of their market share. A pretty smart move considering that when the merger goes though Dell will be at a disadvantage.

  • Next Gen Kyro Chipsets Delayed

Published: Wednesday, September 5, 2001 | By: Dennis

Just when product support for the Kyro is starting to stir STMicro loses focus and lets the next generation Kyro slide. But on a happy note developers have released dev. kits for the Kyro chip (PowerVR) so we should see some specialized game titles in the future.

  • Code Green?

Published: Wednesday, September 5, 2001 | By: Dennis

Some enterprising gentlemen have come up (independently) with a solution for the continued Code Red infections. You'd think that this late in the game, System Admins would have it together, but my personal Web Server still logs a lot of code red II traffic
