After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Side Fan Fiberglass

    Side Fan Fiberglass
Now for the fun part, to hold the fan grills into place I choose to use fiberglass. I could have used a variety of other materials but fiberglass seemed to be the best choice. It is relatively strong and will stick to just about anything (except for waxed paper). To ensure a strong bond I roughed up the edges of both the case panel and laser-cut grill. Next the fiberglass resin and glass matting where applied then allowed to cure. The waxed paper on the back keeps the extra resin from getting away and also helps to fill the gaps.
The remaining gaps and edges where filled with body filler (bondo) and sanded it smooth. I also cleaned up the extra fiberglass and bondo around the grill openings by grinding away the excess though most of it popped right off.
