After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain. I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain. If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

CoolerMaster 690 II Advanced vs. CoolerMaster 690

Cooling Features
PC Cooling has changed dramatically over the years. Many of us still remember when the first 120mm fans started replacing the standard 80mm units that adorned the "Beige Box" generation of cases. Modern cases and Enthusiast chassis designs don't just support a single fan cooling solution anymore, in fact many have taken airflow to heights, that years ago, would have been unheard of.
CoolerMaster has equipped the 690II Advanced with 5 large fan locations that support either 120mm or 140mm fans. These locations include 2 open locations at the top of the case, 2 vertical locations in the door, 2 locations at the bottom of the case (provided you remove the HDD tray, and a single at the front and rear of the case in the traditional locations. In most cases you will only require the fans that come included with the case, however If you are looking to take full advantage of the watercooling options found in the CM690II the extra locations are a welcome addition.

When modding a case to support watercooling it is important to make sure your radiators are positioned away from any components you may need to remove on a regular basis, and to also provide plenty of airflow. Coolermaster has made sure to address both of these concerns in both radiator locations. The top radiator mount conceals the cooling fans under the decorative top panel. The lower radiator has the fans inside the case but well below the height of the PSU so to remain out of the way.
To help illustrate some of the clearances with radiators installed see the photos above.
