After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Pumps and Reservoir

Another original asetek part for the WaterChill is the small but easy to use reservoir. Entry and exit ports are located towards the bottom of the reservoir and will eventually trap most of the air that doesn't get stuck in the radiator. The kit also includes a mounting bracket so the reservoir so it can be positioned very close to the pump. This of course is for convenience and depending on your installation may or may not be needed.
asetek sent over two Hydor pumps to test with and are shown here for a size comparison. The smaller L20 pump is located on the left and is rated at 185Gal/hr. The larger L30 pump located on the right and is rated at 320Gal/hr. Both pumps are very quiet (provided that the excess air is removed).
Every WaterChill pump comes with a control box with SafeStart. This little device will turn the pumps on when it detects power from a small 4-pin power connector. The control box also has the ability to control fan speed based on output voltage and for the paranoid few there is a convenient LED connection to give you a visual that the system is working.
Much like the asetek VapoChill systems there is no shortage of included hardware though don't expect to have any spares since exact part counts are included. I actually lost one of the Teflon washers during the assembly process and it was never seen again.
Some may recognize the radiator as a commercially available Black Ice Pro. Well you would be correct. The radiator features a high flow 4-core design with places to mount 2 120mm fans (one on each side). asetek has included a Sunon 120x38mm fan that has decent airflow and is remarkably quiet, especially at 7v.
