After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Synthetic Benchmarks - 3.0Ghz

Sandra is a software collection of synthetic benchmarks that will give us a basic idea as to what a system is capable of. It should be noted that SiSoft numbers change depending on what version you have installed, these where recorded using Sandra Professional Version 2003.3.9.44

There are three pairs of numbers in the following graphs.
DDR400 taken using the default timings based on the SPD (3-4-4-7)
DDR400 using optimized memory timings (2-3-3-6)
DDR500 using default timings and default memory voltage (3-4-4-7) (2.6v)
    Sandra Memory 3.0Ghz
    Cachemem 3.0Ghz
As you can see from the graphs below there is clearly a huge increase in memory bandwidth on the Sandra side of things. Cachemem also shows an increase but slightly less than what would be expected.

Given all of this memory bandwidth, how does it help in the real world?
