Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRS2H Motherboard Review

The 975X chipset supports up to 8GB of DDR2 memory and Foxconn has added support for speeds up to DDR2-800. Of course faster memory can be used though only at the slower rate.
One cool feature found on the new Foxconn motherboards is the Digital PWM (Digital Pulse Width Modulation) power supply that replaces the traditional mosfet based version with tiny digital drivers and a passive heatsink. The result is a very cool running power solution that not only frees up a ton of extra space on the motherboard but also delivers stable and accurate power to the processor and supporting components.
So what do you suppose this little yellow button does? Yep you guessed it, a power button. The button is not very well marked and is tucked into the very lowest corner of the motherboard but it comes in quite handy on the test bench and for system builders that are fiddling with components. Now all we need is a reset and cmos clear button.
Active chipset cooling has always been something that we look favorably on when it comes to motherboard designs. If implemented properly this little device can enhance overclockability, basic system stability, and remain quiet while doing it. As we saw earlier the Foxconn 975X7AB features 2 basic heatsinks on the North and South bridge chips and both are removable for easy upgrading. Of course the only downside with any Intel enabled motherboard is the use of mounting loops instead of holes.
Dual Gigabit Ethernet is quickly becoming a standard on most high end motherboards and these two are made possible by a pair of Marvell (10/100/1000) PHY chips. The ATX Connector is a standard Foxconn layout featuring the formentioned Dual Ethernet ports, digital audio, 4 USB 2.0, Firewire and eSATA. Of course the legacy ports are also available.
