After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Introduction
The Soyo Dragon isn't a new motherboard to the market and by the time this review is published there will be a revision to this board called the K7V Dragon-Plus, the plus being a chipset upgrade.
The motherboard also contains a host of other features. Some are built into the KT266 chipset and others being added for additional functionallity.

    The key features include.
AMD Athlon & Duron Processors, 200/266MHz FSB DDR Memory both PC1600 and PC2100, up to 3GB
SOYO Wizard On Hand II Function : CPU FSB Frequency can be setup by 1MHz increment
CPU core voltage & FSB & multiplier could be adjusted via BIOS setup
AGP Pro slot supporting up to AGP 4X
On board CMI 8738 Audio chip to provide 6 channels audio solution supporting optical & SPDIF output
    On board 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
Embedded Promise "Lite" IDE RAID controller, provide IDE RAID 0,1 function
Lite only supports a maximum of 2 IDE drives in RAID

Collectivly these features give the SY-K7V its Dragon name.

As you can see from the photos below the Soyo Dragon follows typical layout patterns that we have all come to enjoy and love. Space around the processor is pretty tight, though Soyo was nice and provided space between the capacitors for easy heatsink clipping. Plus if you are lucky enough to have a Alpha PAL8045 there is mounting holes on the motherboard for you. The Dragon comes with a sharp black PCB and purple PCI slots. Not sure what the idea was behind this though I suspect it to be a crafty marketing ploy.
