After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Bios Features

The Soltek SL-86SPE-L BIOS is a little different than most by having common BIOS features grouped together in submenus of each section. All appears to be accounted for just in smaller chunks now. The CPU selection allows for clock frequency adjustments from 100Mhz to 350Mhz in 1Mhz increments. AGP DIMM and CPU voltages can be controlled from here as well.
Memory controls are contained in the Northbridge section of the BIOS and has pre-selected clock frequencies of 266, 333, 400 and AUTO, Memory timings can be manually set or auto configured by the SPD chip. I found that manually setting the timings rendered the best performance. One bothersome feature of this screen is that the bios doesn't auto fill values based on the SPD settings, instead it just fills the selections in with default values. The tip here is to know what your memory is programmed at, plug those values, and tweak from there.
