After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Board Features and Layout Cont.

A Realtek RTL8110S provides the SL-915GPro-FGR with GigaLAN Ethernet. Keep in mind that this is a PCI 2.2 device so it won't have the same bandwidth that a GigaLAN PHY adapter would. However I doubt many will ever see any difference. A VIA VT6307 is used for Firewire support and provides 2 connections, one is located on the ATX connector while the other is a pin header on the motherboard.
Typically Soltek has included a Promise controller for IDE RAID support but this time we find an ITE Tech IT8212F controller. This chip provides the same features found on the Promise controller, IDE RAID 0/1/1+1, but is limited to only 4 ATA133 drives. 1x Parallel ATA and 4x Serial ATA connections are provided as part of the Southbridge and do not have hardware RAID support.
The ATX connector comes with enough analog audio connections for 6-channel audio though can be upgraded to 8 channels by installing the AC'97 8-channel codec. Other connections include: 1x GigaLAN RJ54, 1x Firewire, 4x USB 2.0, 1x D-Sub 1x Serial Port, 2x Optical Audio connections (both In and Out), and 2x PS2 Keyboard and mouse ports. You can find the Parallel port and Floppy connection under the last PCI slot. sad smile
As with most Pro Series motherboards from Soltek the SL-915GPro-FGR comes with a wide assortment of goodies to get you up and running.
