Hiper Type R 730W Power Supply (HPU-4S730) Review

In the early days of Ninjalane we didn't pay much attention to power supplies as it was often considered that a good name brand PSU 350W or larger was more than sufficient for any desktop system. However things have changed, with the advent of SLI and Crossfire technology anything less than 550W is unheard of. As these power requirements continue to skyrocket it is clear that come upgrade time you'll be adding a PSU to your list of "must have" components.

HiperGroup has created some very unique and innovative PSU designs and the Type R HPU-4S730 is by far the most daring of them all. We actually like the modular power connectors, they are extremely easy to use, they look great, and add an industrial feeling to this product. We also like the placement of the modular plugs while several of you may disagree we feel they give the case modder a chance to actually show off the PSU instead of spending countless hours trying to hide it.

However the down side is also the upside in this case. Since the plugs are right above the CPU socket they will likely cause problems in smaller cases or systems with extremely large air coolers. Watercooling is one way around these clearance issues and by far a better choice for that custom PC.
