After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain. I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain. If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Core i7 Dual Channel vs Triple Channel Memory Test

Everest Ultimate
Everest ultimate is a multipurpose diagnostic and testing program much like Sandra 2009. In our tests we will just be focusing on the cache and memory benchmark suite. The results of this test will differ in scores from Sandra due to a different method of stressing the ram and system cache.
First the Dual channel and DDR2 runs
Pay careful attention to the values in these screenshots.

Dual Channel PC2-6400
Next up the Triple channel runs
We captured these performance numbers from our GSkill Pi Black Triple Channel PC3 12800 6GB Memory Review which is also one of our reference systems for this article.

Everest Ultimate Conclusion
Everest shows virtually no difference in dual vs triple channel mode with clockspeeds being the deciding factor. you will also notice the latency scores show much lower results than Sandra was reporting,( with latency Lower is better) again due to the different way of rating the performance. We were surprised to see such little difference in Everest after the virtual shut out in Sandra.
This is exactly why we like to use more than one kind of test to evaluate products we test and also helps to illustrate that not all performance tweaks will render a positive result, depending on what you are doing sometimes it will render a similar result.
