After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Happy Birthday Ninjalane.com

Lots of stuff happened this month.  First there was a barebones system giveaway to help celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the website.  Computex 2010 occurred in Taipei Taiwan (this was the 6th time I have been to Taipei to cover the Computex show).  The day after the show I held a little birthday party at a beer bar called Café Odeon, its a great place and reminds you of a coffee house, that serves beer.  Friends of Ninjalane were invited, these included other site owners and a few of my local friends that have helped me over the years.

The party was great but the timing prevented several people from showing up however, in the end it turned out to be just perfect.

The first Ninjalane podcast was recorded.  This is technically the second time I have released an audio recording on the website.  The first was an episode of "Ninjalane Radio" back in January 2005.  Back then there was no way to stream audio over the web so I had to host a Shoutcast server and instructed everyone to tune in at a certain time during the day to listen to the broadcast.

That actually failed, however once I changed the audio to "on-demand" there were quite a few listeners.

Well this time around the audio was ramped up with a professional quality microphone, a co-host friend of mine, and rather long agenda.  The plan is to have one episode each month and address current topics in Overclocking and Gaming.

First podcast goes live along with a plan to refocus the website efforts.  One thing that made Ninjalane popular in the past was the unique focus on high end and hard to get computer hardware.  In many cases Ninjalane the only site that reviewed the product so traffic was good.  The idea is to get back to doing something similar and reconnect with the community.  The podcast is the first in many changes I have planned which, if done correctly, should get things rolling in the right direction.

Several site changes have been launched.  The first is converting all of the image popups from the old school JavaScript:window.open to a more modern method using jQuery.  I decided to make things easy on myself and used a Lightbox alternative called Fancybox.  This move allowed me to remove some ASP.Net code that generated the popup window and updated the website into 2008.  (yes this changeover was long overdue)

The second feature is an image gallery.  When I designed the Ninjalane CMS I built in a rather powerful image processor that would resize and watermark all of the images you see.  The CMS gallery did a great job but made it difficult to spin thru the images due to how I published the articles.  With any luck the gallery should increase pageviews and attract a new kind of site visitor.
