After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Modding Potential

We do our case reviews a little differently than most sites by featuring a small section dedicated to the modding possibilities of any case we happen to review.  Some cases have a good design for mods while others may not.  Truth be told any case can be modified however the extent of the modifications can vary from window installations and painting to extreme mods like watercooing, new fan installations, and panel reconfigurations.

The Element S is a great example of a case that reflects an empty canvas.  The styling is elegant yet simple and comes with no pre-modifications aside from some oversized fans.  The case comes completely black; the outer panels are colored black and feature a nice smooth texture.  The inside of the case is colored black as well including the parts under the plastic panels.  ThermalTake even made sure that all of the rivets have been colored after assembly.
In terms of cooling mods you have a fair amount of choices.  The top 230mm fan could be removed and replaced with a single or dual fan radiator.  Pump and res will fit nicely next to the PSU in the empty area currently allocated for the 2.5” HDDs.  If you would rather keep the cool red LED fan then remove the HDD rack and use the dual 120mm fan installations for the radiator and place the pump and res behind it.

The side panels are very clean and would really lose their aesthetic if you modded them however a small window would fit nicely and if done correctly might even enhance the “tuner” style cooling vents.

Modded or not, the Element S is a classy case with elegant lines and conservative colors fitting for any home office or gaming rig.
