After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain. I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain. If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Raidmax Samurai 908 Case Review

Case Cooling
The lack of good cooling is one of the driving forces behind casemodding and should always be a consideration when buying a new case. The Raidmax Samurai supports 2x 120mm fans in the traditional locations and comes with two very unique and effective cooling vents. The included fans are clear with the front fan being lit by blue LEDs while the rear fan is thermally controlled. I have heard reports that the front fan is also thermally controlled but the thermal sensor was never located.
As you can guess the case design does not allow for a traditional intake vent near the fan opening so Raidmax designed a new one. The photo shows a series of divisions around the Raidmax symbol, this is the intake vent. Basically the air enters thru the side panel and wraps around to the fan opening.
The rear vent is rather unique, instead of having perforated holes the entire area was removed and covered with a plastic louver. The only thing better in terms of airflow would be to have nothing there.
The front opening fan is rather restrictive by comparison. The opening is perforated to the outside with the inside being right up against the hard drive rack. This pretty much does nothing for airflow but ideally should keep the hard drives at a reasonable temperature.
