After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Bios Features

The SL-K8AN2E-GR comes with a fairly verbose listing of BIOS features that should make any system tuner quite happy. The screenshots below are provided to show many of the performance centric BIOS settings.
AMD's Cool 'N' Quiet technology is designed to downclock and undervolt the processor when it is not under load. This will affect the system in a variety of ways with the result being a cooler and quieter system, as the name suggests.
The Cool 'N' Quiet technology works by adjusting the multiplier, it is a little known fact that the multipliers are unlocked on the Athlon64 but only to a certain degree and only when implemented correctly. Adjustments could be made on the SL-K8AN2E-GR though anything over +/- 1x would lock the system up.
The default BIOS for this motherboard only has FSB adjustments up to 250Mhz, we were lucky enough to get a beta BIOS with adjustments up to 300Mhz.

When overclocking the Athlon64 the HyperTransport bus is one of the most important multipliers in making your overclock successful, however as of this writing it remains unclear as to how much can be gained from these adjustments.
The following screens show the various voltage settings, timing adjustments, and memory clock dividers. The only real disappointment is the 1.55 Vcore limitation that was carried over from the SL-K8AN-RL.
