After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain. I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain. If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.
Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

Media Menus
Apple Movie Trailers
Since the NMP-1000 comes with basic web access you can download and watch the latest Apple trailers direct from their website. Simply click on the trailer you wish to watch and it will start streaming over the network.
You can also do a similar search and stream from the YouTube website. We didn't have much luck getting this to work but the options are there.

Browsing for media
The built in menus are based on a tree structure and allow you to drill down into them and find the media you are after. This screen is of a share drive I have on my network that happens to store all of my music, pictures and videos.
Picking Media
Say we want to listen to some music, after you find the song you wish to play simply click the file to activate it. The media player will then load the file and play it for you. Here we have picked an Mpeg4 audio file.
One disappointment here is the lack of any sort of visualization to watch while you are listening to songs. In fact while songs are playing all you get to see is the following image over and over. There is a screen saver but only grays out the screen a bit and may show the time or QNAP logo bouncing around the screen.
