After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Conclusion

It is a little known fact that we have never really liked pre-modded cases here at Ninjalane but really for the wrong reasons. For us a pre-mod takes all the fun out of building a custom case and depending on where you shop they can often be quite ugly. However all pre-mods are not the same and the Raidmax X-1 is a good example. The material choice is excellent, cooling is adiquate, and the styling is simple, clean and effective.
Raidmax has gone to great lengths to convert a standard case to be completely tooless. Just because the case says tooless doesn't mean you have to abide by the suggestion. For example we had real problems with the card retention feature; the tabs were prone to breakage and difficult to operate. This might have looked good on paper but actually seemed to be a waste of time and effort. When it comes to tooless card retention methods go the one found on the Raidmax Samuari, it is the one of the best.
A striking feature found on the X-1 is the integrated baybus that not only gives you the internal case temperature (or CPU as it is labeled) but comes with a fan power indicator with failure alarm and HDD status light.
Now for the ever popular list of Good things and Bad things. happy smile
    The Good Things
Securty "show door" with aluminum strip
Integrated baybus with fan and temperature monitoring
Available in more colors than white
Window with installed blue LED fan
    Tool less design
    The Bad Things
Blue LED fan installed in window
    Card retention method shoddy
Aluminum panel doesn't serve much of a purpose aside from looking good.
