After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain. I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain. If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.
Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com
SilverStone Sugo SG04 Case Review

Case Mods
Case modifications are normally done to solve 2 basic issues with a case. The first would be cooling followed by visual aesthetics, cooling is one of those things that changes with each build and largely dependent on how well you install your gear. Silverstone goes to great lengths to ensure their cases provide the best cooling possible so there is very little need for cooling mods..
Here is a YouTube video that Silverstone has created to illustrate positive air pressure as it relates to the Sugo series.

Watercooling is a great aftermarket solution that normally is very silent. The problem is depending on your case it can be extremely difficult to install. The SUGO SG04 does have watercooling potential as we saw during Computex 2008 in Taiwan. That case was completely watercooled with 2 radiators.
The front fan assembly is clearly big enough to support a dual 120mm radiator assembly so the mod is halfway there.

Another popular mod is visual aesthetics; normally this would include cleaning up fan locations, adding windows, and/or painting. Since the case is constructed from steel repainting the structure will be easy however you’re stuck with the case color for the rest of the panels, sadly anodized aluminum is not paintable without a ton of prep work.
Case Mod Conclusion
Funny thing, the only mods we would make would be a watercooling kit and removing the carrying handle. Positive pressure cooling does wonders for keeping the chassis vented and adding additional fans will only spoil that.
For our casemods we normally add a series of decorative windows but given the compact nature of this case we would find the effort to be lack luster at best, in fact the TJ10 style vent seems to be a pointless addition in these regards.
