After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Cooling & Improvements

    Case Cooling
Antec is pretty nice and includes one 80mm case fan with all SX63x cases. I'm taking a guess but would say this fan will most likely be the first thing that gets replaced. The included fan doesn't appear to be anything special, My recommended mod would be to ditch the 80mm preinstalled unit for a high-output replacement fan or break out the hole saw and cut in a spot for a 92mm fan. There is physically enough space for the larger fan but some creative filling of holes will be necessary for it to happen.
    Blowhole
The blowhole is a fairly popular mod and doesn't require much work. The SX635 has enough space to house 1 92mm fan or 2 80mm fans side by side. (3 60mm fans would fit but I don't recommend it. The configuration wouldn't be quiet or efficient.) During a trial fit a 92mm fan was pushing the clearance limits if you had a top mounted CD-Rom so I'm doubtful anything larger will fit.
I have already spoken somewhat of the front mounted cooling provisions. If a fan is mounted in the hard drive cage the provided holes will need to be enlarged or removed. The lower case fan has an open mesh similar to the rear fan. Personally I doubt a fan should or ever will be needed in this area if proper exhausting is provided.
