After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Product Design and Features Cont.

TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS has a limited RAID setup and with only 2 drives you get to choose from the following: RAID 0, 1, or JBOD.

For this installation we are using two Samsung 250Gig Hard Drives. These drives are not huge based on what the TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS can handle but do have great speed and won’t break the bank.
The SATA connection is made on the back of the unit in the typical Hot Swap manner.  Now the TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS is setup to use only standard SATA drive setups which means the new Western Digital Velociraptor will not fit.
The included goodies that comes with the TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS is pictured here and includes a power cord, network cable, detailed manual and a small box with screws.  The screws are used to install the drives and secure the front panel.

The frame that that surrounds the PCB does an excellent job protecting the motherboard, so much in fact we could not get it out of there. Still if you have seen our last review on the QNAP TS-409 Pro Turbo NAS Review you will find there are only minor differences in terms of overall design and setup.

Let’s move on to the main reason for wanting one of these incredible toys, the software.  The included software is what separates this product from just any everyday NAS.
